Classic Inca Trail
Day 1 - Cusco>Piscacucho>Wayllabamba
Early this morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in a private
bus. Pass through the Sacred Valley (Chinchero, Urubamba y
Ollantaytambo) and arrive at Piskacucho, Km. 82, where you will have
breakfast and start the trek. After several hours of trekking, stop for
lunch in the small village of Miskay. Along the way you will visit
archaeological sites such as Llactapata before continuing on to your
first campsite in Waillabamba.
Day 2 - Wayllabamba>Warmiwañusca>Pacaymayo
Today presents the toughest challenge of the trek. After a hearty
breakfast, you will start trekking to the highest point of the Inka
Trail (Warmiwañusca Pass 13,780 ft.) passing through several different
ecological and climatic zones. Cross the Warmiwañusca Pass and descend
to a beautiful lunch spot with panoramic views of the lush cloud
forest. After lunch, continue on to your campsite at Pacaymayo and
enjoy dinner, hot drinks, and a much-deserved rest.
Day 3 - Pacaymayo>Chaquicocha>Wiñaywayna
After breakfast, you will hike up approximately 45 minutes to reach the
second pass at 12,631 feet above sea level. Along the way, your guide
will offer detailed explanations putting the ruins of Runcuracay,
Sayacmarca, and Phuyupatamarca into their fascinating historical
context. Late this afternoon you will arrive at Wiñaywaina, your final
campsite.
Day 4 - Wiñaywayna>Machu Picchu
After an early wake-up and breakfast, you will embark on the final leg
of the trek to Machu Picchu. Depart Winñaywayna for the Untipunku or
"Gate of the Sun" where you have a breathtaking panoramic view of Machu
Picchu’s majestic palace and temples at sunrise. After a short hike
down to Machu Picchu, you will register and start a 3-hour guided
visit. After enjoying the ancient ruins, you will take the bus to Aguas
Calientes where you will have free time to enjoy the town before
returning to Cusco with your guide. (Optional overnight at Michu
Picchu.)
